Home insurance tips for condominium owners

Posted in Home Insurance on 09.03.12

When you own a single home, the home insurance you will get covers for the structure as well as personal belongings inside the house such as computers, clothes, furniture among others. The scenario is different when you have a condo, the insurance policy only covers the structure and not what is inside your condo unit.

If you are purchasing a condo, make sure you also get an insurance policy that will protect your personal properties inside your home. These insurance policies which protects the content of your condo are not expensive coverages and can prevent loss of your possessions.

Typically you need a content insurance which is about one fifth of the value of your condo. Say your condo unit is worth $400,000 then you need a content insurance of around $80,000. There might be a need for some liability policy to come with the coverage.

Know the requirements

You need to coordinate with your condo association if they require certain policies for owners. Depending on their bylaws, condo associations might impose a certain amount of coverage for individual condo owners. This may apply for other insurance policies they may require as well. Before purchasing an insurance, make sure you or your lawyer checks with the condo board because you need to abide by them.

Flood Zone

If you are in a flood zone, you also need a flood insurance. There are certain states though that require every homeowner to have a flood insurance regardless if they are in a low or high risk area.

Fixing Your Home Up On A Budget: 2

Posted in Real Estate on 13.02.10

home-improvementsNow that we have talked about air filters and such, let’s move onto damaged caulking and some dirty tiles.  These two things are super easy to fix, all you have to do is head to the hardware store and chat up some of the employees.  Even if you are not handy, you can get a lot of information from these people that work in hardware stores and they are a fantastic resource that you should be using.

To be perfectly honest, caulking is super easy, all you need is the caulk and one of the machines to push the caulk through and you are all set!  Fixing dirty tiles is also extremely easy, all you need to do is brush them off and even go over them with some white vinegar.

White vinegar is a great agent to kill a lot of germs and to brighten and whiten those tiles right up.

man-painting-house-interiorSelling your home is something that is very, very difficult – especially in this market.  So when you do make the decision to sell your home, you need to make sure that you are putting the best home forward that you can, that way you can attract all sorts of potential buyers to the home.  One of the greatest ways to attract new buyers is by adding in a fresh coat of paint to the interior as well as the exterior of the house!

Ensuring that the interior looks as great as the exterior is the very first step to making your home beautiful.  After all, paint color is very important for the inside as well as the outside.  Most of the time, white is the standard color on the inside, as you want to make sure that you leave some options for the new home buyers.  However, adding in an accent wall or two is a fantastic idea to really showcase the house itself.

On the outside, it should be a pretty neutral color, as you want to attract buyers, not scare them away by painting the house an outrageous color!
